ESMA's role in enforcement of corporate reporting requirements

Former ECB chair calls for the authority to be given greater powers

Those involved in corporate reporting often refer to an ecosystem in which standard-setters, companies, investors, auditors and regulators all play a role. In this context, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) is a significant player, and recently the former chair of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, called for the authority to be given stronger powers. This article considers ESMA's role in enforcement of corporate reporting.
