Recent guidance issued by GIRFT aimed at improving safety for patients

Reducing errors for better treatment in health services in England

The GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) programme in England now covers a range of crucial issues in a series of separate publications, all of which are aimed at reducing errors in healthcare. The programme is designed to improve treatment and care by reviewing health services in England. It carries out clinically-led reviews of specialties, making use of data analysis and the professional knowledge of senior clinicians to examine how procedures could be improved. That often involves tackling variations in the way services are delivered across the NHS and sharing best practice between trusts to improve patient outcomes, reduce unnecessary procedures and save costs.
