I Introduction

With 808,183 registered seafarers in 2020, China is one of the largest maritime labour supplying states globally.3 Chinese seafarers play an important role in Chinese coastal trade and the global shipping industry in general. They transport over 50% of Chinese domestic trade and more than 93% of China's international trade.
