Ship financiers
Introduction
Most merchant ships have been acquired by their owners with the assistance of finance provided by banks or other lenders. Pollution liabilities are of concern to ship financiers for a variety of reasons which relate largely, though not exclusively, to the liabilities which may be incurred for pollution in the US either by their borrowers or, in some cases, by lenders themselves.
