Adoption order for Egyptian child granted
Re Z (A Child: Egyptian fostering UK adoption) [2016] EWHC 2693 (Fam), 23 November 2016
This was an interesting case concerning the adoption of an Egyptian child, Z. Z was found abandoned in Egypt in 2010 and was placed with T (a British citizen) and her then husband, K. T and K later divorced, and in 2013, T and Z came to the UK, after which T informed the local authority and applied for an adoption order. The application was opposed by the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity and by K, who both considered that Z should return to Egypt, on the basis that T was no long a Muslim and the promotion of Z’s cultural, religious and national heritage would be inadequate.
