INTRODUCTION
Typically, straightforward claims are handled by the insurer’s claims department. More complex claims may be handled by experienced claims handlers within the insurer, or loss adjusters or solicitors may be instructed to deal with some or all aspects of the claims. This Chapter considers some of the more important legal issues which arise in connection with the insurance claims process, from the initial presentation of a claim through to payment by the insurer.
