CHAPTER 14
Statutory adjudication in Singapore
Statutory adjudication in Singapore
Introduction
14.1 Statutory adjudication remains an unusual form of alternative dispute resolution. It became available in Singapore in 2005, following the enactment of enabling legislation the year before. Singapore was only the fourth country to adopt this form of dispute resolution, after the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Statutory adjudication has since been adopted by (at least parts of) three other countries, namely Malaysia, the Republic of Ireland and Canada. As things stand, therefore, only seven countries in the world today have adopted statutory adjudication, fewer than half of the common law jurisdictions, and not a single civil law country amongst them.
