Any lawyer, practitioner, academic, or member of the judiciary1 who is confronted with conflict of laws issues must know that the key work in this field is Dicey, Morris and Collins.2 He or she must be familiar with the two hefty volumes which are written by leading figures in this field under the general editorship of Lord Collins of Mapesbury with an impressive team of specialist editors: Adrian Briggs, Andrew Dickinson, Jonathan Harris, JD Maclean, Peter McEleavy, Campbell McLachlan and CGJ Morse. All the editors are very highly regarded in their particular fields and have written widely in their own right. Many have extensive practical experience of how the law is applied and/or have been involved in the development of the law.
Volume 1 deals with preliminary matters, such as characterisation, procedure, jurisdiction and foreign judgments, whereas volume 2 is more specialised and deals with family law, the law of property, corporations and insolvency, and the law of obligations.
